My recent trip to Kinmen was a refreshing escape that blended history, nature, and quiet charm in perfect harmony. Over five days in the company of 52 youths from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Philippines, we explored the island’s timeless villages, historic battlements, and peaceful coastlines, all while enjoying a sense of calm that feels rare these days.
One of the most meaningful stops was Jincheng Town, where I visited the Fu Xiqi Memorial Hall (傅锡琪纪念馆) and caught a possible glimpse of a long‑distant relative. That moment, together with an introduction from Secretary-General Wang of the Kinmen County Council to 永成行, a provision shop run by 傅仰洹, gave Kinmen’s layered past a deeply personal dimension. I learned that our ancestor had seven sons: only the first two lines remain in Kinmen, while the others may have spread across the world. I am still searching for our 祖谱, said to be kept by the most established descendant of the Kinmen Fu clan, now based in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Beyond the historical threads, I was captivated by Kinmen’s migratory bird sanctuaries, where more than 300 species can be seen passing through the island over the course of a year.
Kinmen’s proximity to Xiamen is another unique advantage: just a short hop away for shopping, dining, and cultural experiences, yet the island itself retains its slower, gentler rhythm of life. By the end of the trip, I found myself not only imagining retirement here– peaceful mornings, friendly locals, and a pace that truly nourishes soul but also an indescribable feeling to return more often.
我最近的金门之旅是一次令人耳目一新的旅程，完美融合了历史、自然与宁静的魅力。在五天的时间里，我与来自新加坡、马来西亚、印度尼西亚、文莱和菲律宾的52位青年一同探索了这座岛屿上的村庄、历史悠久的城墙以及宁静的海岸线，一路上感受到了一种当今罕见的平静。
最有意义的停留之一是在金城镇，我参观了傅锡琪纪念馆（傅锡琪纪念馆）。之后，跟着金门县议会王秘书长的引荐，我前往永成行- 一家由傅仰洹经营的杂货铺。这位遥远的亲戚让我了解到，我们的始祖有七个房：但只有前两房留在金门，其余可能已散布世界各地。我仍在寻找我们的祖谱，据说它由金门傅氏最有成就的后裔保管，现居香港九龙。
除了这些历史脉络，我还被金门的候鸟庇护所深深吸引，全年有超过300种鸟类穿越岛屿。
金门毗邻厦门是另一大独特优势：只需短短一程即可前往购物、用餐或文化交流，而岛上仍保有自己缓慢而温柔的生活节奏。旅程结束时，我不仅开始想象在这里退休-宁静的早晨、友善的当地人，以及真正滋养心灵的节奏- 还强烈渴望更频繁地返回。
