Kinmen reflections December 2025

Since young, my grandparents, parents have been active in Kinmen Association and they have made numerous trips to Kinmen. However, due to various commitments, I was never able to visit Kinmen with them.

This trip was especially memorable as it was my first time to Kinmen and I was bringing my son and niece along with me to trace our roots together.

The trip made me realise first-hand the hardships our forefathers experienced in Kinmen and their long arduous journey down to Southeast Asia and not just what I read on history textbooks. I also realised how fortunate that we were living in Singapore.

I also feel closer to Kinmen- the place that my ancestors were born in, having seen and walked the roads and visit the places they used to stay.  I can now understand why my parents mention this warm feeling every time they visit. 

Even though the Kinmen trip was short, the warm hospitality of the people, the richness of the culture and natural scenery, would remain in a special place in my heart. I will be looking forward to returning to Kinmen!

从小，我的祖父母和父母就积极参与金门会馆的活动，他们也多次前往金门。然而，由于各种事务缠身，我一直没能和他们一起去金门。

这次金门之旅格外难忘，因为这是我第一次去金门，而且我还带着儿子和侄女一起去寻根。

这次旅行让我亲身感受到先辈们在金门经历的艰辛，以及他们跋山涉水来到南洋的艰辛历程，这不仅仅是我在历史课本上读到的。我也意识到我们现在能生活在新加坡是多么幸运。

我探访他们曾经生活过的地方，感觉与金门更加亲近了。现在我终于明白为什么父母每次去金门都会有这种温暖的感觉了。

虽然金门之行短暂，但当地人民的热情好客、丰富的文化和秀丽的自然风光，都将永远铭刻在我的心中。我期待着再次到金门！
